Did Firefox 2.0.0.8 eat your extensions?

Published by Rich Pav under General

When my copy of Mozilla Firefox automatically updated itself last week, it restarted without any extensions installed. in the Tools -> Addons dialog box they were all labeled "…will be installed after restart." I couldn't enable or disable any of them, and restarting did nothing.

Here's how to fix it:

  1. Quit Firefox.
  2. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(random_letters_and_numbers).default
  3. Delete extensions.cache, extensions.ini, and extensions.rdf
  4. Navigate to the "extensions" subdirectory. Delete the folder "staged-xpis".
  5. Restart Firefox. It'll recreate the files you deleted and your all your extensions will be back in action.

This is the first time I've ever had a major problem with a Mozilla application.
