Tokyo is back to normal

As of yesterday evening, the omnipresent police have completely disappeared, put back into cryogenic storage, ground up into tasty hamburger meat or maybe they were never police to begin with, and they’ve been given back their tattered homeless rags.

It’s a good thing too. By the last day they were all looking pretty bored. I started to see them congregated into groups talking to each other instead of standing watch over commuter/terrorists.

Seriously, I really want to know where the hell they all went.

P.S. I’m posting this using ScribeFire.

  1. On the last day, I saw that the 10-15 officers I normally saw in Shinjuku station were in 2-3 groups talking, joking and looking much more relaxed. Very different from the previous days, when you could see they were intently watching the people coming and going, and some of them had their batons extended and always at the ready.

But like I said previously (I think I said it), they never actually bothered anyone. I never saw anyone get stopped, frisked or asked for ID. It’s just that the feeling of being watched wherever you go is unnerving.
