really, you should have just picked up the G4 pack in Akihabara, 7000-8000 yen (depending on memory) for all the free games you can handle, and the internet never sells out of torrents!
Carl, Japanese games will work in a DS bought in the US and vice-versa.
Butt, I have the M3 Lite Professional Adapter. It's probably not the best choice out there, but it does the trick. And yes, after a night of running around everywhere trying to find a store that had Bimoji Training in stock, I checked PirateBay.net. But I do plan to buy the real version when I find it. Honestly. My kids need it as much as I do, so it's worth paying for.
On a side note, a lot of the games I've tried out are utter crap. They're not worth the time it takes to play them.

I love how Japanese companies are using gaming platforms for educational purposes. My friend has a DS with a very handy kanji dictionary on it.

I don't see why not. I think games are interoperable.
