I don't understand America
I can't understand why McCain and Hillary are leading in national polls. McCain thinks invading Iraq was the right thing to do, it's going well and we should stay there for the next 100 years? I hardly ever hear anyone agree with that, but then again I don't watch Fox News. Who's supporting him and why? You know what, I wouldn't invite him to dinner because the entire night I'd keep glancing at my watch hoping it would be time for him to go home.
I don't understand what democrats see in Hillary. I see someone who will say and do anything to get elected. I don't see her as trustworthy candidate who can win the primary election, or as a president who will unite the country.
And while we're on the topic of not understanding America, when exactly did celebrity meltdowns cross over from the tabloids into daily mainstream news? Chris Crocker was right. Leave her alone already. Every time I see Britney's name in the headlines, I feel like screaming/crying enough to make my mascara run too. What's the attraction? She's mentally ill and needs help, preferably on some remote island in the Pacific. End of story. Whatever hole Michael Jackson crawled into, I hope there's room in there for one more person.
In other news, it snowed all yesterday and it was cold enough to stick on the ground. Very rare. This morning school openings were delayed and I rode my bicycle to the station though treacherous frozen slush. It's days like this I wish my carbon footprint wasn't so small.
The other news is that Tony is one of the lucky few who was able to snag a copy of Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii and played it almost nonstop all weekend. I played it too but found it to be rather monotonous and unchalleging. Other than the hodgepodge of characters available, it's not offering much new or groundbreaking. It's just another sidescroller; Mario Brothers et. al. revamped and repackaged. I'd rather see Tony reading manga than wasting his youth on that game, but unfortunately bashing bad guys gives little boys a much stronger dopamine rush than learning new kanji. On the bright side, at least he's not shooting heroin.

I really can't understand support for Hillary either- it bewilders me. What I have come to decide is that it is most likely based in ignorance. Hillary's support is wide and shallow. People see "Clinton" and they make a basic assumption that its probably a good choice. Obama is slowly chipping away at her in the polls, day by day. It has been called a race against the clock. Obama is working to get his message out, and the more he does, the more his numbers go up. I only hope that he can do it fast enough. Of course, we all have a responsibility to help by spreading his message and donating to his cause.
The biggest problem with her support is among women. Many vote for her purely based on her gender, while they don't really know anything about her megalomania and atrocious record. It's her one (and really only) very large and solid base. I am lucky enough to have a girlfriend who sees straight through Hillary's bullshit, but many, sadly, are unable to.
Anyways, I'm caucusing for Obama on Tuesday. I was able to go see him in person a few days ago- the stadium was packed. 20,000 seats sold out in 24 hours. I have a lot of hope that he will be able to pull this off in the end.
A few pictures of the event are on my Flickr Stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maiku00/
I really hope he can pull it off. I can somehow understand voting for Clinton. She does have a record of working with the other side to accomplish something. I can't think of many other liberals that have managed to get Sen Brownback on their side for something. In fact, she is such a good Senator that it would be a shame to deprive Congress of her services.
I really can't see McCain winning this, despite what the poles supposedly say. The war in Iraq is unpopular if not abhorred by most, and he is so for that it makes me want to cry. And he has basically promised to go to war in Iran, despite the complete lack of evidence for nuclear development. Listening to the man talk, either he is a complete lunatic, or he is a huge liar just trying to get conservatives to support him. In either case, not the person I would be comfortable with.
With the direction America has been heading in, I've got two voting strategies. One: if Barack is nominated I'll vote for him to get elected. Two: if Barack is not, then I pick the most destructive candidate possible. There are only two routes for America to improve. Sen Obama has transformative vision and the will and ability to accomplish things through his practical approach to issues. The other is bloody revolution, and it will take a lot to get Americans to do anything about our government. Therefor, I have to hope Huckabee gets nominated for the Republicans. If he gets elected I KNOW that it will get pretty ugly here in a short period of time.
That said, I think Sen Obama has a great chance of winning this thing. There are a significant number of anti-war conservatives and republicans that Barack can win over in the general election with talk of practicality and prudence in government. I can already imagine how the debates will go. Sen Obama will calmly and rationally explain a point, and McCain will just foam and yell about how unAmerican he is. I've seen Barack deal with that type of talk before. He raises an eyebrow, stairs in disbelief, and redresses calmly.
The biggest threat to Sen Obama is going to be smear. I am amazed people buy this type of thing, but I actually had to talk to my mother about lies that are being spread for 3 hours the other day to convince her that Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim spy or terrorist. Newspapers in the South are publishing articles saying that "Barack Obama refuses to say the pledge of allegiance" or "Barack Obama swears on the Koran, not the Bible". There are SOOOO many things wrong with stuff like that. Those reports are simply not factually true, and if they were so what? You know what, I don't swear on a bible, I don't say the entirety of the Pledge of Allegiance. Rich, this is how bad it has gotten over here. If you aren't Christian you are a terrorist. And weird enough, Senator Obama was baptized in his adult life. He is more like evangelists than any other candidate in that respect.
I've been so all over the place. Sorry. The point is, Americans have been stupid enough to believe much of the libel in papers, and this is enough evidence for liberals, Democrats, moderates, whathaveyou, to support Clinton, because she is immune to mud. What worse could they say about her?
If McCain goes on to become president by swiftboating Hillary with the "She voted for the war, then voted against it, then threw up the white flag of surrender," I'm going to puke. Then I'm moving to Canada. I guess America deserves what they elect.
It's sofa-kind sad…
Hillary is primarily supported by women who will vote for a woman no matter how wrong she is, Hispanics, old people and the uneducated. Obama is tied with Clinton in popular votes. He is supported mostly by white men, blacks, educated people and independents (people not affiliated with either party). Clinton is a good liar and has been able to convince uneducated people that she was against the war, when in reality she supported it with her votes.
Your right and thats why I'm learning japanese

I support Obama 100%! Hilary just doesn't cut it for me. She occasionally contradicts what she says and you never know what she REALLY stands for.
