Bill O'Riley, America's favorite frothing-at-the-mouth rabid, paranoid, reality-impared, sexually harassing pervert, recently declared war on the Daily Kos blog. It's a long, fascinating story that shows just how powerful and influential citizen journalists have become.
Here's the short, incomplete version: O'Riley has been slagging Daily Kos on his show something fierce, because Kos had something to do with convincing Democratic presidential candidates to boycott any Fox sponsored debates. In retaliation, Fox managed to convince JetBlue, a sponsor of the upcoming YearlyKos convention, to pull out. In a tit for tat move, Kossacks convinced Lowe's Home Improvement to stop advertising on O'Riley's show, and they're going after local sponsors next.
And now that O'Riley has drummed up all sorts of free publicity for Daily Kos, they've declared today Falafel Day and are posting quotes and links related to the sexual harassment suit that was filed a few years ago by a former employee of Papa Bear.
I'm just lovin' it. I'm downright giddy. I predict O'Riley falls over dead of an aneurysm.
In other news, Oliver, a podcast listener from the UK who's vacationing here before going off to university, is crashing at our house tonight because he couldn't find a hotel. The kids are really, really excited to meet him.

Something I heard on the ABC News Nightline podcast while commuting to work this morning really, really pissed me off.
Over the past six years, some 22,500 soldiers have been discharged on grounds of “personality disorder” — a condition that can be alleged to have existed prior to their tour of duty — thus absolving the Pentagon of its obligation to provide their medical care and pay their benefits.
A six-month investigation by reporter Joshua Kors for the April 9th “The Nation” magazine learned of “multiple cases” in which “soldiers wounded in Iraq are suspiciously diagnosed as having a personality disorder, then prevented from collecting benefits.”
Veterans are told that they can either be diagnosed with PTSD and wait 6-9 months for a medical discharge or be diagnosed with a "personality disorder" and get discharged immediately. It's only after they sign the papers that they're told they're not only ineligible for veteran's benefits for life, but also they owe the government thousands of dollars because they have to pay back their enlistment bonus. Get the full story here.
You know what I'd like to see? Michael Moore start his own news network. There's so much going on that deserves more attention than Paris Hilton, David Beckham and Posh Spice.

The epicenter of yesterday's quake was 150 miles northwest of Tokyo, so we weren't affected. We only felt a mildly strong and long tremor.

Most of the videos I've posted on YouTube (same as the ones I post here) have been viewed hundreds or thousands of times, except for the "Koga Lantern Festival" video, which to date has been watched by a paltry 78 people.
I don't get YouTube. The shaky, nausea-inducing video I made by sprinting through a supermarket has been watched over 3,000 times, while the video I spent hours and hours trying to get "just right" is passed over.
So I decided to conduct an experiment by renaming the Koga Lantern Festival video to something that might appeal more to the YouTube demographic. I have a feeling it'll work.

Those drunken lushes over at the The Real Happy Hour released their first video podcast a few days ago, and its production quality is nearly flawless. You have to watch it, it's well worth the download. I can't imagine how many hours it must have taken to produce a video podcast as good as a multi-million dollar cable TV show using a $400 camera, $200 worth of lights, Adobe After Effects and Final Cut Pro.
I've been listening to their podcast since episode 1, but had no idea they were as talented with video as they are with audio.
Damn, I gotta get me's some After Effects.
