From ZENcast.com: "Podcasts, named after our biggest competitor who's been kicking our asses into next Thursday, short for Personal On Demand broadCast, are audio files you can download into any MP3 player or computer. These audio files are broadcasted over the Internet automatically to subscribers of specific podcast channels."

"audio magazines", or "webcasting", terms that might describe other forms of media distribution, and "rsscasting," which would be difficult to pronounce. quickly creative, edit that page quietly so no one knows, like adam curry did. (viaherro flom japan — very good gaijin in japan personal on demand broadcaster)

Creative is just ridiculous…
I always imagine Sim Wong Hoo to look and behave like the Brother Grimm's Rumpelstilzchen – in a way similar to Steve Ballmer

I guess "a podcast" never was and still is not exclusive to ipods, so "Personal on Demand Cast" makes sense to me.
Such an explanation of the term "podcast" actually surfaced already in 2004, and Creative seems to just have adopted it.
Have a look on the links below for some reference, look at dates, these words are from 2004:
